Registration and Enrollment
Who We Are: St. John's Westminster Learning Center has provided excellent, loving child care and education for Cincinnati's west side families since 1962. We are a Step Up to Quality center and all staff participate in ongoing professional development to stay current in the field of early childhood education. As the needs of the community have evolved, so too have our programs changed to accommodate our families. Finally, we make every effort to remain affordable to families in our community. We are a non-profit center run as a ministry of St. John's Westminster Union Church. Our program is carefully administrated to provide affordability without comprising quality, and our cost reflects that belief.
Our Curriculum: Our goal is to validate a child’s self-worth through a developmentally appropriate curriculum. This includes the following:
- The opportunity for every child to learn and be challenged at his/her own pace.
- A child-directed curriculum that fosters independence, ownership, and creativity guided by the teacher’s open-ended questioning to allow children to take their next developmental step.
- Self-contained classrooms, each equipped with music, science, math, art, transportation, blocks, writing, sensory, and dramatic play centers to fully support children’s exploration with a variety of interesting, open-ended materials and large blocks of time for children to explore them. This also eliminates lost learning time due to transitioning and reduces anxiety.
- Special events such as Munchkin Madness, Tea for You & Me, The Grand Friends Fall Festival, and our Traditional Nativity Play to create school and family memories.
- Music and physical education classes from qualified specialists.
- We teach Pro-Social Guidance where children learn to problem solve in getting along with others.
Our Program: We offer flexible scheduling for toddlers and preschoolers. Students in the toddler program do not need to be potty-trained, and we work with parents if there is a preschooler on the verge of being trained. Students signed up for the 9 am – 2 pm extended class may be placed in multi-age classrooms after lunch to provide an opportunity for a different learning experience from their morning classes. We are also researching a Spanish curriculum to add to the extended classes. Please note that naptime is not provided in the extended class and parents of these students send in a lunch for their child. In an effort to help today’s busy families, the school provides nutritious, nut-free snacks and offers a drop-off program.
Registration: Currently enrolled families have priority registration. We will start accepting all other registrations after January 3rd which may be mailed in or dropped off at the school. Registrations will be time-stamped and dated, and students will be placed in available spots in the order received beginning on February 1st. There is a $75 non-refundable registration fee unless we cannot place your child in a class or your child is moved onto kindergarten. We reserve the right to move children if necessary to better accommodate their developmental stage. Confirmation letters will be sent out late February. If you need full-day preschool and child care, please contact the director of the full-time program, Theresa, at 922-2703.
